Bet that Chevy Volt sounded like a good idea at first.

My built in America non-hybrid Camry got 55 mpg yesterday. I’m good.
And where does the old battery go??
If there is any value in it at all, I'm sure that someone will ship it to Ukraine.
To recycle hell. I'm sure that a fair amount of the cost of the new battery is for "safe" disposal of the old one. They don't detail that in the estimate.
Now imagine if you decide to scrap the car. How much they gonna charge you to dispose of the battery?
Into the landfill. Then into your water supply?
Chevy DOLT
38 cents a mile. Or about $10 a gallon for a gas version at 25 mpg. Yea I'll take 2. You save by doing it in volume you know.
It's 38 cents/mile for the battery alone.
If you add the labor and tax, it's 42 cents/mile -- PLUS all the electricity costs to charge it for 70K miles.
And the battery will resch end of life even if you dont use it much. Unlike the motor in a car which requires a great deal.of use.
In Washington state where they’re telling us we’re going all in on EVs. I drive a Nissan Pathfinder with an e gas chip in the OBCII port. Highway 32 mpg sometimes 33, 26 in town. I’m good with that.
The Yugo of EVs
The Corvair of EVs
The Edsel of EVs
Take your pick.
^^^ corvair owner
what do you have against Edsels
Besides the fact that it was a flop and almost bankrupted Ford, nothing.
In fact i was born the same year the Edsel was.
still nothing wrong with them
True dat. They really are a work of art.
Corvair gets a bum rap. The problems identified by Ralph Nader in "Unsafe at Any Speed" (1965) were addressed by Chevrolet in the 2nd-generation models that came on the market by 1964 (1965 models). The 2nd-gen was a beautiful car.
They are actually fun to drive.
What the estimate doesn't tell you.
Good luck actually finding a battery for the VOLT, nearly impossible to get.
You are better off buying a new car.
Or just drop a little 4 cylinder gas engine in it.
How novel.
Don’t see many of the original Prius’s on the road these days - 3 to 5 years same life span as a toaster.
I work at a dealership.... guess what has a MONTHS long waiting list??? EV batteries..... MONTHS
Looking at auto trader, Chevy Volts seem to be holding their value just fine.
Even cars with over 150k miles and out of their 8 year 100,000 mile battery warranty seem to be selling for about $9,000
Which is interesting, because supposedly, the cost for a remanufactured Volt battery is about $9000.
Not in my area. 2/3rds have been on there for a while with new reduced price.
I'm seeing $6,500-7,000
Used EV market. Now an OXYMORON example
HAHA!
Ummm....
Total MSRP $31,995 Edmunds suggests you pay $26,997
