Exactly this. Energy conservation and using renewables isn't the issue. The problem is the destructive mining of battery minerals and the off-shore exodus of our automobile industries. There are great applications for solar, wind and tide energy generation but it is clear they have huge issues at larger scales and are not proven to be a suitable replacement for renewable oil. Yes, oil is a renewable resource. Second to water as the most abundant liquid on this planet. There is no scarcity, that was just to make sure prices stayed high.
