IMHO I think kids and people in general not being humbled is the problem...all kids are led to believe they are so special that the world revolves around them
I agree with this. Children do need love and nurturing, but humility goes a long way. Not one of us is above the other. BUT, each one of us are unique in our own ways and have a special set of skills given to us by God to serve whatever purpose we're supposed to serve on earth. Took me a long time to realize that honestly. God doesn't usually pick special or famous people to carry out His will, He tends to pick nobodies. People humble of heart and gentle of spirit. Jesus was born into a family of carpenters. Nobodies. Jesus was a nobody till he started performing miracles and preaching the word. David was a nobody, but God chose him as the next King and through his bloodline was born the Savior of all. Moses was a nobody. Abandoned by his mother out of love so he wouldn't be put to death by pharaoh. And yet he became a leader. You don't have to move mountains or be in the spotlight to serve the Almighty with your unique skill set. Nowadays kids just want attention and fame, even if that means mutilating themselves on the alter of woke science. But that's just my opinion
I don't doubt there could be a correlation but is this "study" legit or are you being comical/snide? it comes across as defensive or at least snide. did I need sauce to support that humility is a virtue? how about every deep state swamp creature is a psychopath which feeds off of narcissism, or are we unable to "prove" that?
all good fren. my initial draft response made me stop and realize that you might be genuinely relaying a study, because at first I was thinking what an asshole, ha. as we know studies can say whatever the commissioner of the study wants, but this study you reference I tend to believe. in reality, many of us (me included) were confident idiots when we were younger so I imagine this type of mentality could be associated with criminals, and those that never grow up, or as we say here "awaken". I mean logically, what criminal goes into perpetrating a crime thinking they are going to get caught?
you're quite welcome. I think it's a great article that really does articulate the dilemma almost perfectly. it's more or less why I find Socrates and the quote (it has variations) attributed to him so profound:
"If I am the wisest man alive, it is for I know one thing, and that is that I know nothing"
I take it to mean not that one can't have a strong sense of what the truth may be, but they realize they can never truly KNOW with 100% certainty and they realize their own strongest beliefs are challengeable and could be disproven. also what I consider to be the truest of anons on GAW
Yea, too bad the nearly 500,000 churches in America couldn't show them the way. Too bad all the millions and millions of people who are christians in this country, which is a predominantly christian country, couldn't give them the love they crave.
"God" people lure kids in the same way Disney does. And they've been doing it for way longer than Disney has been around.

I read an article that articulates the confident idiot psychology quite well and I think this is it if you want to give it a read: https://psmag.com/social-justice/confident-idiots-92793
