I hadn’t been on telegram for a long time and when I finally did go back to check it I found a couple of chats that I had never added myself to. There’s a setting you need to be familiar with that prevents other people from adding you to a thread without your consent.

Yes but the owner of a platform can run software to search every single post for, say, key words to build a database of "deplorables" automatically without human involvement.
For other platforms it's still possible but can't be built in and can be detected.
In addition, the owner of a platform has your sign-up information, which might include your phone number.

Go the FAQ page, they have a link to delete the account. But they send a code in the app, so you uninstall after confirming the account delete.
