Citing your sources is important any time you try and make an argument. You got your data from somewhere. Especially if you're writing, you have time to look up the sources.
It is a huge pet peeve of mine when people say outrageous things or things way off the beaten path and then scream at me when I ask how the hell they came up with that and what evidence backs it up. They made the claim. They have the burden of proof. Especially when we're talking about very different theories than what is commonly understood that's critical.
If you're going to tell me Hollywood's full of pedos, prove it. Name some. It shouldn't be a difficult task. If you're going to claim Washington DC runs on blackmail, tell me why you think that. Who has been blackmailed? Whose doing the blackmailing? Election fraud? Provide proof, explain how it was stolen. These are bread and butter beliefs on this board. Anyone who posts here regularly should be capable of writing extensively on the topic and citing many facts that support these claims.
That's very easy to do. And there are THOUSANDS of examples.
All you have to do is keep score. I recently had a conversation with a super liberal guy who flew in for a conference from Silicon Valley and got him to open his eyes to the media's gaslighting and lying with these two articles about Konnech and election fraud written by the same author published ONE DAY APART.
I told him the lag time between "far-right conspiracy theory" and "true" is sometimes only a matter of minutes these days. Because we are destroying their narratives as they form and we have become so good at sniffing out the BS and communicating in real time that the only defense is mass censorship and banning- and even that does not have a chance. Because truth cannot be suppressed- once even the slightest hint of a lie is revealed, the narrative immediately fails.
I told him that you don't have to be antivax or anti-government or far-right, all you have to do is keep score. I don't consider myself any of those things- I'm just anti-fraud. When someone is proven to be a liar, make sure you record that they are a liar and take everything they say with that in mind.
Because I heard on the news (cnn? CBS,β¦)
They're not wrong to ask for proof, but yeah...
