Not completely true. Most lithium ion battery packs when worn out go to secondary auction where guys like me buy them to recycle the cells and make new battery packs for our off grid homes. And when I’m done with them they get recycled again by being shred and the lithium is re-leached out so a new cell ca lab be made. So they pollute twice
No need to remotely turn off because most EVs only have a real life range of between 150-200 miles and then require several hours to recharge - most people will stay put instead of dealing with those logistics for any kind of road trip.
To be fair, this is also the source of batteries for your laptop. And your cell phone. And your iPod. And pretty much every single long term rechargeable electronic device you own or use.
