Why slog throught the mud of fall when you can race through the ice of winter. The Russians know how to fight in the dead of winter and I doubt the Ukrainians want to fight after a month of no heat, electric lights, or warm water. Will be interesting to see how this war plays out. If NATO does not get involved I presume the Russian Army will be knocking on Ukraines western border in mid January.
Yes and no. The Kursk defeat was in summer. Not winter. All people pointing to Stalingrad, which is memorable for its own sake, merely prevented the blocking of oil transport from Baku to the starving for oil Soviet tanks.....
I believe the Russians are well prepared to fight in winter conditions. As you stated - Winter Warfare. I’ve seen videos of their frontline hideouts. Well underground with even hot showers and heating. Rough, but out of the weather. They have mobile canteens and many that came in in the last mobilisation (reservists) that were called up are now serving as chefs etc. as they may have been previously injured or older but are now serving.

Oh NATO is involved alright.
Smart.
Smart, and well tested in History - Napoleon and Hitler were both defeated in Winter.

And tanks without oil = attrition.
Kursk is the turning point.
That's what generals do.
