Dems are trying to lower the voting age to 16 is gaining steam across the country.
The cities of Oakland, Berkley, Takoma Park, Hyattsville, Greenbelt, Riverdale Park, and Mount Rainer all allow 16- and 17-year-olds to vote in municipal elections.
Boston is now trying to do it as well. The City Council just approved a petition allowing 16- and 17-year-olds to vote in municipal elections – it is unknown if it will pass the Massachusetts Legislature.
Just The News reported:
The Democrat-led movement to lower the legal voting age to 16 — or in some cases even younger — is gaining momentum nationwide, scoring local victories while winning the support of lawmakers and activists on the political left.
The campaign’s latest win came in Boston, where the City Council on Wednesday approved a petition allowing 16- and 17-year-old residents to vote in municipal elections.
The petition will now be sent to the Massachusetts Legislature for approval, which isn’t guaranteed. Several other towns and cities in Massachusetts have voted for similar proposals, which then failed to pass the state House. In 2019, Pelosi said she supported the voting age being lowered.
When asked by a reporter she said “I myself have always been for lowering the voting age to 16.”
The Washington Free Beacon reported(2019):
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D., Calif.) on Thursday said she has “always been for lowering the voting age to 16.”
Pelosi was asked by a reporter at her weekly press briefing whether she believed the issue of lowering the national voting age to 16 years old would gain traction in Congress. The issue came up for debate in the House last week as an amendment to the “For The People Act,” which is also called H.R. 1.
“I myself, personally, not speaking for my caucus, I myself have always been for lowering the voting age to 16,” Pelosi said. “I think it’s really important to capture kids when they’re in high school, when they’re interested in all of this, when they’re learning about government.”
Democrats know they can’t win elections fair — so they are trying to change the rules!
Why not start them in elementary school. That makes as much sense.
I remember being in first grade, and my teacher having a faux election to see who we would vote for if able to. Thinking back, I’d say “What friggen business is it of yours, and what the hell does a six year old know?”
Dead people, comatose nursing home residents, people who have moved from the state and are still on the voter rolls, illegal aliens and now 16 year olds. And still they gotta print phony ballots and cheat to "win".
If anything I say push voting age back to 25. Preferably need a W2 or 1099
Someone posted the voting age should be 28 years old. I thought about it and I tend to agree. A teenager wants free stuff and is idealistic, and easily swayed. Spending time in the work force and military has a way of opening one's eyes to the reality of the world.
I doubt this will pass. And doesn't the Constitution mention voting being 18 years of age?
The only people who should vote are those with skin in the game. In other words people who work and pay taxes, and homeowners, Or those who are retired and still paying taxes.
16 and 17 year olds (and for that matter some 40 year olds)are still living on their parents dime
No they shouldn’t be allowed to vote on
16 year olds are playing video games and STILL LEARNING about the world in FUCKING HIGH-SCHOOL!!!
..and these criminal libtards want to them to make life changing decisions for most other voters who are actually contributing to society..of which these kids are not. They're still living with mommy and daddy.
The real reason is the criminal left wants to ADD MORE REGISTERED VOTERS TO THE ROLLS SO THEY CAN MANUFACTURE MORE FAKE BALLOTS AND HAVE THE 'REGISTERED VOTERS' TO COVER THEM.
What we really should be doing is probably (if anything) be raising the voting age to 25. At least at 25 these people have experienced some real world experiences and can make a more informed vote.
I am teaching a college class with many high school seniors enrolled (through a special program). We were discussing the latest election and many of them told me that they do not know anyone except maybe one big name so they vote for any name they knew and then just zig zagged through the remaining offices. That's young people for you.
When will we take them all out?
Crazy. To vote, you should be old enough to drink a beer or smoke a cigarette if you chose. Kids are not able to consent to medical procedures until 18 unless emancipated yet you want these 'not yet mature' individuals to vote?
