The price of almonds is going to go through the roof, what with the rains and floods in California, I am considering buying a nut grinder machine to make my own almond butter, the prepper in me tells me to get a hand cranked, but what with my arthritis I don't think I would be able to. I like to add the raw almond butter to my smoothies and snack on it too. The bulk price is not cheap, but raw nut butter has to be stored in a refrigerator. Seems it would be more practical to make my own, and I have been stocking up more than usual because of the flooding. Does anyone here grind their own nuts and grains? Is there a product you can recommend? Thank you.
I've been living on an almond orchard for the past eight years. It is true we are getting a lot of water, but the almond trees are fine. I don't see a reason to panic tbh. If it hurts anything it will probably delay the start of germination, which is in the next 4-6 weeks. Harvest typically begins in August and ends in September. For anyone interested, here is a 4 minute video showing the harvest process.
wow, thank you for a first hand account, nothing better. I hope it all works out a and the rain is a blessing. I just know prices get jacked up on commodities as soon as a weather forecast even hints at disaster, so I didn't want to pay more, they have been climbing in cost, as has everything edible.
