I don't think it damages computer but it is racist and contributes to climate change.
Pretty sure it aids in toxic egg production and gas stovetop usage too.

Ohh i am going to put an inverted sticker with a picture of myspace "Tom" over my camera!!!! I will have to make it really small though!
How dare you!
Anyone NOT do this?
I know right? I’ve been doing this since they put cameras in computers, laptops & iPads.
I should really just use black paint or liquid electrical tape....
I keep mine inside the computer. I don't think I've used it since we bought it. Good luck looking in my camera Feds.

Anything can damage an Apple product. I have a laptop that's so old it has Windows XP on it. It won't wear out. It has no camera. But it does have a DVD player and a remote control, as well as Harmon Kardon speakers with a built-in woofer underneath. I think I bought it almost 20 years ago. I'll never buy an Apple product. Also, I wouldn't have a Dell computer if it was given to me free.
Good grief.... HOW?!?!?!
I am going to guess they are going with pressure the tape causes on the laptop when the lid is closed.
If you put too much or too thick tape on there that may actually be true. A small thin piece in just the right place though and you will be fine.
True. I guess I never planned on digging a small hole near the camera and filling it with concrete.
Good to know. :)
they made the margins on that model of laptop so tight that if you had the tape there, closed the lid, and had any pressure on the lid, the screen would crack.
Many camera lens are plastic, the adhesives in SOME types of tapes, have a petroleum distillate, that can damage the camera lens. Some may leave a film behind, which will degrade the focus of the pictures.
Will it destroy the CCD device that makes the camera work? Nope; but it may permanently degrade the lens, or the various lens coatings used to reduce reflection, polarization or enhance color.
Does anyone take pictures with their laptops, though?
If you need to “zoom” for meetings, then yes
Then it's all good, if they see you looking too green you'll get automatic sick days off...
I have seen a few people on cruise ships use iPads to take video/snap shots as they go through the Panama Canal, or Alaska. But by and far, nope. Most use either a dedicated SLR or their phone.
That said, when i do use my PC webcam to talk to family - I want a clear picture.
I covered my phone "selfie cam" with a small spot of paper and then taped over it for just the reasons you give for damaging the screen in front of the lens or the lens itself.
Which would hamper Apple's ability to sell video from your computer... But digitizers covering the camera that faces you on ipads and iphones, and most android devices, made from gorilla glass should be unaffected...
Steve Jobs, and Tim Cook have REPEATEDLY stated that privacy is the number one concern at Apple. When an executive member of management makes a statement like this, it has severe consequences.
Every wonder why NO OTHER computer/cell phone manufacturer mentions the importance of privacy? Because of the penalties imposed under the Oxley-Sarbanes act of 2012, which includes up to 20 years in jail for each member of managment who told shareholders a lie. Apple makes presentations at least 3x a year, where they re-emphasize their security/privacy enhancements. Funny how nobody else (hello Microsoft, Google etc) says anything remotely similar.

How long has Jobs been dead? Hoq many corporations abandoned all sanity to the woke agenda?
It’s been mentioned specifically at pretty much every Apple WWDC, annual new product announcement and share holders meeting. Tim Cook mentions tbjs on every iOS, TVOS, Mac and iPadOS event.
It has never been retracted. Remember when the incompetent FBI changes the password on the old terrorist iPhone, and Obama’s regime demanded Apple create an iPHone hacking tool? Apple told them to go pound sand; they knew not to trust the Government
Do you think any other company wouldn’t submit? Do you think any other company isn’t already monitoring you?
The fed makes the same statements using the same language (sentences) quarter after quarter too. Because they know that people watch for even minor grammer changes as a signal.. To be frank, after the 2020 shenanigans There are few "business as normal" statements that I take without a block of salt.
Wise choice Trust; or distrust But always verify
I have my laptop behind a large monitor and its facing away. Now if I can figure out some red pill loop stuff to show them...
