Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof. — Matthew 6:34

Over the past few days, there have been a lot of people discussing recent bank failures and economic pressures. We have witnessed two banks fail, one of which directly affected someone that I know from New York. There have been stories shared about how there are concerns for many other major banks across the world.

It isn’t just the banks, either. I read one article that shared an expected stock crisis. This writer said they had seen all indications that the stock market was going to crash to levels not seen in decades. They predicted lost money and difficult times ahead. This has led to a lot of posts online and discussions about what is going to happen in the future.

As I read through these things, I could not help but think about Jesus’ teaching here in Matthew 6:34. If I were to summarize what Jesus said, it would be, “why are you worried about tomorrow? There is enough to worry about today. Stop worrying about what you cannot control.” Which is the truth!

None of us know what tomorrow will hold. Sure, these financial experts may be correct, and the stock markets and banks may all be in crisis tomorrow. Just as much as we may wake up and things move along as they have many other days. We cannot control the future.

I’m so glad that I know the one who knows the future and controls it. God is not worried about what is going to happen tomorrow. In fact, God is not even worried about how He will take care of His children here on earth. Time and again, God has cared for His own all throughout history.

So don’t spend your day worried about tomorrow. Instead, focus on the God who is in control of tomorrow. Share all your care and concern with Him and trust Him. As the little kids often sing, “He’s got the whole world in His hands.” It’s more than just the world, He’s got you in His hands and He will take care of you.
