Supreme Court hears Navajo water rights case
When the U.S. Supreme Court hears arguments Monday in Arizona v. Navajo Nation, it will be considering fairly technical legal questions, but the answers could have a large impact on water allocation in the Colorado River basin.
I don't care how many seats at the table the Navajos get, they will NEVER have a voice as to how much water their reservation will receive. If they get nine seats out of ten and say that the Navajo nation should get 80% of all the water in the Colorado river, they will never see a drop of it. Why? Because too many outside influences are aligned against the Indians and their needs are small compared to the needs of big cities and agricultural needs. The Navajos will need to build dams and water pumps, dig thousands of miles of pipes and have the money to run all of that. The Najavos will win in court but they will not see one drop of water for at least a century. Don't get me wrong, I am all for the Navajos winning this case and having a seat at the table. But their lone voice will not be heard nor even cared for. The native Indians have always been screwed by our government, yet they need to think outside of their perverbial box and figure out how to gain political clout which forces the US government to listen and take action. It won't happen in my lifetime, nor in the years after my passing.
Hope the best for them, but it is a big uphill fight, even if they win this SC case.
...compelling addendum...
...you are absolutely correct, without infrastructure, there will be no water...
...just like the empire wants it....
...the newly elected president of the nation is a very interesting man...
