I believe you're right. Russia could have captured the whole country in a matter of weeks, if not sooner and decapitated it's head of command.

Also it’s weakening the US military by sending equipment to a winless war. Then Xi and China will attack Taiwan. If the US decides to send aid to them as well it just weakens us further. It’s actually a great strategy by Putin and Xi.
