These law are left over from the old days in many states, it was legal and fairly common.
Agree, I understand the ones like say riding a horse while drunk. But a 13 year old girl marrying a 14 year old boy? Or say a 49 year old man marrying a 13 year old girl?
People didn't live as long in the old days and married pretty young. I don't think it happens enough, for states to bother changing their laws....
Yep learned about this in middle school, needs parent’s permission if I recall and is a leftover law from when we were all family farms and people lived to like 50.
Where else in the world is that legal may show who is behind the scenes pushing that crap here in the USA.
You got me thinking and I read this:
States with No Minimum Age 11 states have no minimum age when all exemptions are taken into account. These states are: California, Idaho, Maine, Michigan, Mississippi, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Rhode Island, Washington, West Virginia, and Wyoming.
