If you have an RF emitter 10 feet away from you and you move an additional 10 feet away, the field strength has decreased by a factor of at least ten. At 100 feet, free space RF field strength has experienced a decrease of nearly 3 million times. To utilize real numbers, take a 100 watt transmitter on an urban cell tower. This is +50 dBm. The antenna has a measure 100 watt effective radiated power. If you move 100 feet away, you will experience roughly 68 dB of reduction in field strength. This leaves you with a measured field strength of -18dBm. This equates to 16 microwatts of field strength. You get more off your phone that is limited to a maximum output power of 1 watt.
