The cameras are for airshows. Civilian owned. Not sure why anyone would take the cameras unless there is a chance it was used to get photos it shouldnt have. Given the distance to the restricted airspace, maybe everythingtakes just for precautions.
It's an L-39 Albatross, a trainer, not a fighter jet, and there are a lot registered in the US by private pilots. "Reports from the field are that workers who arrived at the crash site were concerned about the “Russian” markings and words on the plane". Give me a fucking break, LOL! Did they think if flew here from Russia? Love the paranoia angle.
Reportedly privately owned. Some sources report either poor maintenance or a spontaneous part failure forcing the pilot into an emergency landing.
Some sources indicate surveillance equipment and cameras were attached to it initially. Though those were reportedly seized and removed. Verdict is out on who though. Some report Sheriffs Deputies. Others report stereotypical Fed Boi MIB in Blacked Out Suburbans.
Very high security base in San Angelo. The flight patterns show surveillance.
I talked with someone who observed the plane going low and very fast over the city.
It has high tech camera equipment and it was all confiscated. Everyone is mum and the NTSB isn't involved.
Deleted my post for not reading the article first, my bad kek.
Flaps down, pretty well intact for crash landing.
Who knows what the stall speed is on that plane, but the pilot did a good job landing his aircraft with no power.
Any crash you can walk away from is a good landing.
