TLDW: We are largely to blame. We gave The Real World our viewership, and that made them focus on reality TV, which got them their highest ratings ever--at the cost of their soul.
People say that, but I think that's the death throes. The expiration occurred in around 2000 or so, when literally overnight, MTV changed their predominant format from Rock to Rap/RnB. Yo MTV Raps went from a show on at 1am to become the entire format.
"And now, on All Things Rock, today we have Nelly and the St. Lunatics!"
I recall as a teen being annoyed by Kurt Loder's deadpan look as he spewed the "news". Also, Tabitha Soren (another MTV "news" jockey) inserted lots of bias with her stories. It was intended to reach a young generation and form their opinions for them. Today's "kids" have social media for that.
True story: When I was in college Micheal Jackson's "Thriller" came out and while I was sitting in the lunch room in the corner was the big screen television with MTV showing vid all day long. Well, "Thriller" majically appeared ont he television and the wave of humanity that lunged at the television was something to see. It just seemed that every POC who was in the lunch room stood up, and began running to watch the vid. They did not let anything stand in their way. Chairs were upended and tables where moved so these folks had a straight line to the viewing area. It just reminded me of a ocean wave cresting onto a beach. Nothing can stop the wave, it just keeps moving inland. Same sensation with the wave of humanity wanting to see this particular video. That was 30 years ago and it still has made an impression in my mind. If a group of people want something bad enough, whether it's crack cocaine, a great Presidential candidate or a good music video, just stay out of the way and don't try to stop the action.
Talk about killing a golden goose. I remember loving this music channel when it was born in the 80s. Then like all good things the WOKE arrived. It was unrecognizable, and their was no music??? WTF. Never looked back. Born, died, and is now buried. Rest in peace. Along with cowboys and Indians, summer days swimming and just being a kid.
Under indictment for rape or murder or both, spending a fortune keeping their pics and names off of a certain list, busy cutting their dicks off, or all of the above.
MTV were stupid enough to allow Beavis and Butthead to comment of the inane, vapid shit they were watching and the audience agreed. "Ya know what, this shit REALLY DOES suck!"
MTV died when they stopped playing music videos.
A decade ago, there was a great comedy sketch about this.

What’s a music video? - MTV
Sort of like kfc stopped selling chicken and just calls themselves KFC
Popped in the say this. Reality degenerates isn't Music Television! But I'm old enough to remember when it started and watched the videos.

Including Kid Rock to make sure even "rock" was just commercialized urban hip hop with some guitars.
"Does Prog Rock belong in the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame?" Nah. "How about Run DMC?" OK!! And, don't forget to Vote or Die, kids!
exactly
MTV is still on?
And they had news?
Did any of you fags know this and not tell anyone?
Kek
For MTV News department I would have pictured some dude and a cameraman.
MTV is almost 42 years old. I'd like to take this time, and thank them for the 14 years of music videos...
(stolen from an old meme...)

All that Rock the Vote bullshit propaganda around how "cool" Bill Clinton was.
Fox still has employees from mtv? Kennedy from that alternative music show and pizza faced Rachel from Real World San Franshitsco.
Loder was dead inside for at least 30 years commenting on "news" from acts he was too old to give a shit about
Just an fyi — Kurt loder is a huge libertarian. I was surprised when I found that out.
SO MUCH WINNING!!! (And I didn't even know MTV was still around, or had news.)

Mtv had news? Lol
I had no idea either. It's not like anyone watches that shit.
Agreed. I haven't seen MTV since I got my first real job, around 1985.
And it was already a propaganda channel. Around election time, they'd be pushing "Rock the Vote," which somehow always meant "Vote straight Democrat."
One of MTV's stupid dating shows actually had "Never Date Republican" as their theme for that show.
I was 11 and I could see straight through it, which says how lame it was.
Sure, at one point they even had cynical Dave Mustaine as a correspondent during one of the campaign seasons.
MTV is a cesspool. Useless and unwatchable.
Nice win.
There's not much pop culture to report on these days. Where are all the stars?
They were busy touching kids or being touched on Epstein's Island. Come back after lunch.

It’s about time!
MTV were stupid enough to allow Beavis and Butthead to comment of the inane, vapid shit they were watching and the audience agreed. "Ya know what, this shit REALLY DOES suck!"
MTV is stil a thing? Wow, thought that died a few years ago already.
