Time to dust off sewing machines and learn other trades to do ourselves. I don't go to Target, personally, or WalMart for that matter, if I can help it. In the stupid financial crap we're living through, I have learned to make do. I don't want for anything and I make sure there's foodstuffs in the house so we don't go hungry.
Brush up on culinary arts. Learn the cooking methods. Take pride and pleasure in working with your hands (and mind). There's little to no need for big box stores.
Estate sales and yard sales can be our best friends. :)

In fairness sometimes that means having to suck it up and enter the places where the prices are more manageable, like Walmart
If I go I do it first thing in the morning, when you can maneuver around and also find a clerk if you need one...shelves are getting stocked, plenty of clerks to ask until you find one who speaks English ;p
Hahaha! Very true. I just go to Publix, since it's pretty much a block away. I mostly indulge in their buy one get one sales and their clearance items. They've had a lot of pasta for less than a buck a package. There's a locally owned geocery store I use for eggs ($2.39/30ct), meats when they're reduced for quick sale, Crowley's sour cream (best ever!) and cheeses.
