Welcome to General Chat - GAW Community Area
This General Chat area started off as a place for people to talk about things that are off topic, however it has quickly evolved into a community and has become an integral part of the GAW experience for many of us.
Based on its evolving needs and plenty of user feedback, we are trying to bring some order and institute some rules. Please make sure you read these rules and participate in the spirit of this community.
Rules for General Chat
-
Be respectful to each other. This is of utmost importance, and comments may be removed if deemed not respectful.
-
Avoid long drawn out arguments. This should be a place to relax, not to waste your time needlessly.
-
Personal anecdotes, puzzles, cute pics/clips - everything welcome
-
Please do not spam at the top level. If you have a lot to post each day, try and post them all together in one top level comment
-
Try keep things light. If you are bringing in deep stuff, try not to go overboard.
-
Things that are clearly on-topic for this board should be posted as a separate post and not here (except if you are new and still getting the feel of this place)
-
If you find people violating these rules, deport them rather than start a argument here.
-
Feel free to give feedback as these rules are expected to keep evoloving
In short, imagine this thread to be a local community hall where we all gather and chat daily. Please be respectful to others in the same way
So I figured out a thing. I'm not sure how important this is, if at all.
I was curious of Jack smiths history, and had no choice but to skim through Wikipedia (ugh). One sentence caught my eye: "The couple has been living in the Netherlands since 2018."
https://www.syracuse.com/news/2022/12/how-jack-smith-went-from-liverpool-football-bench-to-a-starring-role-in-trumps-prosecution.html
Thought that was odd. Clicked on that link, and I spy a name. "John L. “Jack” Smith graduated from Liverpool High School together in 1987". Jack is a nickname, not sure how he got it.
Thought it was odd too that he had been recovering from a bike injury since 2018 as well: "The couple has a daughter, and has been living in the Netherlands since 2018. He is currently working from there because he is recovering from a cycling injury, according to the DOJ.". With the article published/updated Dec. 14, 2022, 7:54 a.m.
"He worked initially from the Netherlands while recovering from a fractured leg which was injured when he was struck by a scooter while cycling. Smith has since returned to the United States". Maybe not too crazy but 4 years to recover... From.. that?
There was another article I saw that was unrelated that confirmed his "John" name, but I'll have to post it later.
Jack is a very very common nickname for John. My great grandfather was John but went by Jack.
