In a lot of ways the police have kept Macron in power. They have broken up protests and thwarted other unions from shutting the country down. Without support from police Macron will be even more isolated.

The police put down the recent protests related to increase of retirement age from 60 to 62. My understanding is they were exempted from that decision. Not looking good for macron.
