I think this is incredibly disingenuous. You are insinuating that he was aware of child abuse and corruption within the Catholic church and he was wilfully being part of that some how by meeting the pope. Jim Caviezel was just an actor that eventually was cast in the Passion. He most likely had no knowledge about the evils within the industry or the catholic church. He seems an honest, God fearing man, and meeting the pope probably had no sinister connotations. He may have a very different view on things today than he had then.
Its not likechild abuse in the Church has been a secret? Pretty sure everyone has known it goes on for at least a thousand years?
It wasn't so widely discussed until more recent times, and I think this photo predates those times, but yes you are right. However, try to understand a Catholic's loyalty to their church. You've played the role of Jesus in a blockbuster film and now you're invited to meet the pope. I can see how you'd either be unaware or turn a blind eye to the crimes of the Vatican and Catholic Church throughout history. I think he may feel differently now if he were asked to meet the pope. Who knows what he privately felt at the time and now, anyway? Perhaps it was just a photo op? Trump photographed with Epstein at a party comes to mind. They were friends at one point. I'd like to think Trump stopped being his friend and never engaged in Epstein's activities
No doubt. Much the same as a patriot respects the office of the President and would still be reverent and take a picture with whomever the current POTUS might be?
edit: In Spain, its been widely discussed for a while. My family elders over have warned about this since before I can remember. stories of interesting finds under cathderals akin to dumbs and such....or my Catalan family might just be bitter, idk...
yes, that is exactly my point actually. It seems we agree XD I see what you are saying though. I started hearing about the abuse of children by the catholic church more recently, last 10 years or so, rather than during the time of John Paul II. I suppose I was at attending a catholic school during his time as pope, so I wasn't likely to hear about it...
I know that's always been somewhat of an open secret. We had the royal commission into catholic priest sex abuse of children in Australia and then a report released in 2014, I guess that's when it became a more mainstream topic in my life. I would have been too young previously to have heard about this stuff
