Just saw Guardians of the Galaxy 3. If you haven't seen it, there's gonna be some spoilers here.
The main plot is Rocket (the raccoon) is dying and they need his code from his genetic creator, some crackpot who is playing god. They show some of Rocket's childhood, where he has experiences that reminded me a LOT of SRA victim testimonies I've listened to.
In the process the Guardians end up saving hundreds of kids in cages and giving them a home and a purpose.
Now maybe it's because I was literally listening to SRA testimony this morning about a warehouse filled with hundreds of cages and some of the things they experienced there.... but as soon as the light bulb came on for me, I couldn't watch Guardians any other way. Suddenly I saw it as code for what's happening out there. Kind of like it is the tamed down, action-comedy version of Sound of Freedom (no I haven't seen that one yet).
When was the last time you heard of a movie dealing with freeing kids in cages who are being experimented on and tortured... and now we have TWO hitting the public within a couple months of each other?
Also - Drex discovers his true identity/calling is not Drex the Destroyer, but Drex the Daddy (portrayed in a positive light).
I think we've got friends in Hollywood who are working on slipping positive stuff into movies lately, I'm starting to see this more and more.
What do you guys think?
This feathering of narrative or real information has been done forever. Think of all the disaster movies or zombie movies. A narrative or precedent is established in the MOVIE, this mentally preps the masses into acceptance because they already SEEN this happen in their stories. So it's OK. ITS a propaganda tactic. Tried and true. Think about it.
Yes it has been done forever, but it's mostly been tilted towards the negative side. Seeing soft disclosure like this towards a positive side is still unusual enough to notice, I think.
