Perhaps the point is that we aren't actually afraid of them. They've been conditioning us for years to "be afraid of the aliens, they are all evil", but now its just not working anymore and that makes them mad.

I'm certainly not afraid of them, they could do whatever to us and we'd be powerless to stop them, and yet they haven't. At worst they are neutral.
