If these wealthy people had any sense of compassion they would ALL open up their big homes to the people that have lost everything. Not hand out pillows and stick them in a tent
Because all wealth should be shared with anyone that has the misfortune of losing everything? There are homeless all over that have had horrible misfortune befall them. At least some of the immigrants are genuine and homeless. So their country isn't helping like they should so they go to where they've heard there is great wealth and people that are decent. Must mean open doors/borders/homes. I get what you are saying. I'm a follower of Christ as well, and so I am compassionate and feel the urge to help when I see horrible things happen to people.
I’m not sure you are understanding my comment here. Perhaps I’m not saying it right. There are massive homes in this area, billionaires in this area, huge luxury hotels. If the wealthy on this island like Oprah, Elliot, etc. they could easily find these people a place to stay instead of sticking them in tents and handing them pillows. That’s my point, Oprah went down there with news crews to film her “compassion”. She should have instead pulled out her check book and rented some rooms. These people have been fighting the native islanders for years to get their properties, tax them to death and then stand around when disaster strikes waiting to buy up the real estate. You can be wealthy without being an asshole.
I understood you the first time. Your explanation is exactly what I believed you to mean. I fully understand your point, and it is a good one. So stay with me here because this is where the disconnect is:
You believe that people with great wealth and resources should be obligated to house and feed those with misfortune and circumstances that leave them destitute. I agree. So does Christ and decent Christian folk. We are still in the same page, no?
Now scale that out and up. You still with me? Or do arbitrary boundaries and nationalistic ideologies begin to weaken your simple and astute conviction that those with more should assist those with less? Where does that principle break down, for you?
