Sadly, some people are too stubborn and proud to admit they might be wrong. I'm guessing a lot of them will quietly accept a change of direction without actually supporting the truth, to avoid having to acknowledge their culpability in supporting the criminals, in-spite of being told that was exactly what they were doing.
Those people will eventually be forced to accept the truth, as their egos, self-esteem, and emotional state are tied to what others think of them (a sad and utterly pathetic way to live life, IMO), and they'll be shunned if they don't accept the facts that are blatantly obvious.
