My mother told us to never invite the devil in, and strongly popular literature also tells us that. Vampires can't enter without being invited in, the original book and movie, The Exorcist, etc.

I passed this "folk lore" to my children, and they listened. We dismiss the spiritual experiences of our ancestors over the millennia to our own peril.
