Hawaii has not been in the news lately. But why is Hawaii the only state to fly another sovereign country's flag on it? The Hawaiian flag is unique among the state flags of America because it displays the British Union Jack instead of the American stars. This is because Hawaii was once a British protectorate, and the Hawaiian Kingdom had always included the Union Jack on its flag since 1793. Even today, many Hawaiians still feel a sense of loyalty to Britain.
The history of Hawaii is complex. The United States came to possess Hawaii through a coup d'étatin, in which white Christian missionaries played a significant role in overthrowing the sovereign Queen of the Kingdom of Hawaii. However, in 1993, the United States formally apologized for its role in the overthrow, acknowledging that the Native Hawaiian people never relinquished their claims to their inherent sovereignty over their lands.
As a protest against the American takeover of their land, The Hawaiian Sovereignty Movement, which aims to restore the Kingdom of Hawaii as a sovereign nation, also flies the flag upside down to symbolize that Hawaii is still in distress and under threat.
I had the great privilege to visit Hawaii. It was beautiful. Why have the Hawaiian people put their hand out to England requesting help with the fires? I researched and did not see any request or offer of help. Also, the Hawaiian people do not want main land Americans to visit their state as we use up all their resources, according to different groups in Hawaii.
The Pearl Harbour Naval Base is too important to US security.
Without Hawaii, the protection of other US possessions like Guam become much more difficult.
Hopefully, after the Great Awakening, the US Government stops mistreating it's own citizens, and therefore the Hawaiians are on board with the reborn US.
