NEW: Trump seeks a mistrial.

He cites Justice Engoron linking to news articles, "improper co-judging" by his law clerk, political contributions by his clerk and that gag orders show bias.

Looks like Engoron gets to decide.

It is highly unlikely that Engoron will declare a mistrial, given his earlier fraud findings and defense of his law clerk's conduct.

Yesterday there were private talks between the lawyers and then the lawyers for each side and the judge. There were rumors of a settlement, but maybe it was about this.

OK. NOW I think I understand what all the private sessions were about.

Trump's lawyers filed their long-promised mistrial motion, leaning into attacks on the judge and his law clerk as "biased."

The motion cites her name eight times. The phrase "Principal Law Clerk" appears 44 times.

Both Trump and his lawyers are gagged from going after the clerk, but the judge gave some latitude for their mistrial motion, a topic that lawyer Alina Habba indicated the defense would invoke "delicately."
