The two asterisks with Research written above them correspond to the Land Grant Universities (State Schools) University of Kansas and Kansas State University. AFB is McConnell Air Force Base near Wichita, KS.
Kinsley isn't very special, but it's on Route 50 and just so happens to be the ½ way point between NYC and San Francisco.
Here's the part that I found interesting... Hutchinson, KS is home to the Cosmosphere which is a space artifact museum. Only the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum in Washington DC has a larger collection of space stuff. It's also the largest collection of Soviet-era space artifacts outside of Russia.
And the museum is in bum fuck Hutchinson because in 1962 some lady bought a star projector and founded the state's first planetarium, and then in the 80's and 90's the US and USSR donated or sold all of their outdated equipment, and these are the only people who were interested? As the kids say... "Sus."
Can a fren who actually live nearby actually confirm there is something relevant to this map?
