A Japan Airlines spokesperson told Japanese broadcaster NHK that all 367 passengers and 12 crewmembers aboard JAL flight 516 Airbus A-350 at the time of the explosion were successfully evacuated from the stricken plane.

Everyone miraculously escaped.

The Japanese Airlines flight had flown out of Shin Chitose airport in Japan and was landing at Haneda airport when the disaster occurred.

Meanwhile, a coastguard official confirmed a coastguard aircraft was involved in the incident, with NHK reporting one crewmember had escaped that plane but five others remained unaccounted for.

The Jiji news agency reported the coast guard plane was set to leave to help with rescue efforts following a massive earthquake in central Japan on New Year's Day.

The coast guard plan was full of supplies for the Noto Peninsula (worst hit region from the quake).

It is now understood the other aircraft in the collision was a Japan Coast Guard plane reportedly set to deliver aid to the Niigata area.

Investigators said there were six people on board the De Havilland Dash-8 aircraft, five of whom were later reported dead.

The captain was said to be in critical condition, Yahoo Japan reports.

Some 17 people were also reported injured.

Japanese news agency Kyodo said the remaining crew on board the Japan Coast Guard flight have been found, Sky News reports.

CG plane had to be imtruding onto the active runway, he didn't hold short or disregarded or misunderstood traffic control about takeoff clearance.
