Was this a hit by the girl that gave him the apartment number.
swatting??
Maybe, my only question is why answer door with pistol in hand when he announces sheriff department. If you don't think its sheriff department don't answer door. If you did, put pistol down so they can't deem you a threat.
This doesn't add up for trained military to respond like that unless was out of instinct or fear because he would have known outcome of answering door with gun in hand.
He could not hear the officer and only heard the knocks, this is substantiated by the witness as well. When the airman got no response after calling out, as the officer obsecured himself after knocking the first time and was walking around the unit to attempt to look inside, that’s when the airman got the door.
This is not the expected outcome of answering your own door with a legally owned gun in hand, otherwise the 2nd amendment is null and void.
If someone is in a home and answers the door while holding a gun it should be illegal for a cop to shoot them unless they aim the gun at the cop. The protocol should be that they should also draw their weapon and aim at the person to be in position to neutralize them IF AND ONLY IF they raise their gun.
2A must be strengthened
Big 2nd amendment supporter but respectfully disagree here. I would easily argue over 50% of the time citizen with gun drawn when officer approaching is in the wrong. Her's the thing; why have gun drawn? You know when you draw that weapon all bets are off.
To say they should be able to react in that split second is madness...cops have a heard enough job as is. So many on here trash them, screw it I stand for them, greater than 50% are good. Always a couple bad apples but the majority still good. My point is, it is impossible to have us play Monday morning quarterback in these situations. Play stupid games win dumb prizes. Sure some will down vote me but without the law were would we be...sorry. I will always support the law as opposed to lawlessness. Quite frankly sick of all the vitreal towards cops, they have a hard job, lets stop sH*&ting on them constantly.
I guess I can see your point here but damn it. What if they think it's an intruder dressed as a cop?
You present a valid point and that does happen...don't have an answer for you outside of have to bank on likelihood they are who they say they are and are not impostors. But yes happens all the time in robberies now.
I have a few questions about this whole situation... but why did they call him decorated?? what decoration did he earn in military college that matters?
I was also wondering that; whole thing is off.
This smells like a sacrificial hit.
This is why you don't answer your door. It also helps if your door is way off in the woods.
If someone is beating on your door, post up from cover/concealment so you have a chance to introduce the intruder to our favorite Jewish carpenter.
This is where living in a small town is helpful, because you can call the Sheriff and say "Joe, are those idiots banging on my door right now claiming to be law enforcement yours? If so, could you please give them a call and advise them to de-ass my porch and I'll come down by you in the morning with some coffee and figure out what's up.
Very odd. She seemed unsure of room then gives 1401. However, my question is why would Air force Airman answer door with pistol in hand if he had heard Sheriff's department? Surely he knew that this would pose an imminent threat? Only 2 logical conclusions:
or 2 unlikely ones: 1a) somehow he didn't hear sheriff's department and just opened door for whatever reason (very unlikely) 1b) No clue, as to why but maybe he wasn't thinking and grabbed his gun in self defense as a reaction out of instinct when opening the door for sheriff's department.
Know many are roasting the cop but this just seems very odd; what was the cop supposed to do, wait for him to fire first. Tough spot for him to be in flying solo and stepping into that situation.
Your option 1a is exactly what happened, so to say very unlikely is ridiculous. The airman didn’t hear him at first, even the witness substantiated this, and just heard the hard knocks on the door. The officer visibly obscures himself after announcing himself the first time - something many home invaders do. The airman called out to the police (while the officer was walking around the side of the unit) and the officer never answered, prompting the airman to get his gun.
Having your own gun on your property is not grounds to shoot someone, otherwise the 2nd amendment is null and void. The cop was suppose to give instruction and then shoot if the gun is pointed at him. It’s very obvious the cop is wrong and I’m not sure if it’s like some PTSD instinct to completely disagree with the majority or most people, but there’s no denying this. The cop was wrong, as hell. People from all party lines, age, careers, and other demographics that all agree on this.
Unfortunate, and sad. Airman Fortson really needed to have Ivan watching the front door. Ivan ensures people remain polite. Ivan's always carries loose ball bearings.
People never forget meeting Ivan.
Ivan
Cop identified himself twice and the guy opens the door with a gun in his hand??? I don't care what color you are, you show a cop a gun and you are going to get shot multiple times. Cops don't just shoot once, they empty their weapons first!
Anyone can say they are police, that’s used for home invasions all the time. He identified as police and then obscured himself from the peephole.
Not to mention the airman has a right to carry his own gun on his own property - 2nd amendment AND the police were at the wrong door. I don’t think I even referenced or alluded to skin color.
They said the police covered the peep hole. We don't know that for a fact. They said the cops were at the wrong door. Too much "they said". I stand by what I said. You open the door with a gun, prepare to get shot! Police are always the bad guys!
I've seen a ton of videos online where the cops purposely put their hands over the peep hole so you can't see them after they knock.
You know who else does that?
Criminals.
Just another reason I don't like doorbell cams. Too easy to cover them up. I have a camera installed on my front porch way up high that looks down at the door.
Anyone covers that up and they deserve to be shot through my door.
I’m going by the body cam footage when the officer visibly stepped to the side after announcing himself. When you kill law abiding citizens in their home, you are the bad guy - no matter whether you are police or a home invader. You don’t get to pick and choose when the 2nd amendment is granted and no one should get shot for a constitutional right in their own home! You’re just siding with the police for the sake of.
No I am not. Police have to put their lives at risk every time they confront a situation. The worst situation a cop can confront is a domestic violence call. This cop did not know what was on the other side of the door. When the door opens and he sees a gun he reacts if he wants to go home at the end of his shift. Those that don't get a funeral.
Yes you are, you are literally arguing the police’s other potential encounters - that have nothing to do with this military officer and his RIGHT to own and possess his legal firearm in his own home. The cop did not know a lot of things and his fear compounds the safety risk and danger HE posed on other civilians. If you cannot assess properly, between a law abiding civilian and an eminent danger/threat before taking action - you do not need to have a gun (whether police or not) and you do not need to be on the police force. Civilians rights and their right to life, liberty, and freedom come before your personal fears. An officer cannot kill you because he “fears” you, while you are obeying the law, in your own home. End of story.
Opinions are like butt-holes, everybody has one!
Never said you couldn’t have one, just pointing out the flaws in it.
