Not sure is "trompe l’oeil" is the right description. That means "trick of the eye" in French and is reserved for works of art that appear disparate and come into focus as you move around them. I think they meant to say "moire effect" which is the effect seen when you have an LED wall in front of a camera with a different or out of sync scan rate or a very busy pattern on say clothing and the cameras CCD sensor layout out of phase.
