I posted here last November about bloodwork I had done that showed elevated Thyroid Stimulating Hormone, indicating hypothyroidism. Of course the medical professional (RN) I was seeing at the time wanted to put me on Levothyroxine. I resisted, started taking a kelp supplement thanks to the recommendation of the good people on this board, and this year my TSH is well within the normal range. However, unfortunately, now my cholesterol numbers are high, particularly triglycerides, so if anyone has ideas how to get that under control I would appreciate the help. In any case, thanks Great Awakening! Edit to add: The doctor wants me to try diet and exercise for 3 months and then retest cholesterol. So no prescriptions for now. Again, you people are wonderful!

In regards to the cause of your high tsh indication of hypothyroidism, what is the cause? I'm guessing it's not hashimoto's or thyroid cancer. So what then is the cause?
Well, I believe that inappropriate systemic inflammation is the culprit. Too many carbs leading to chronic hyperinsulinemia, wheat, seed oils, alcohol.
Elimination diets will prove beneficial. Low carb, real food will help heal thyself. Meat from red ruminant animals, fish, veggies, eggs.
The iodine supplementation will help the symptom of hypothyroidism, but removing foods that cause inappropriate systemic inflammation will help with the root cause.
You know I have a weird theory about the low thyroid. I spend a good portion of the day with my head cocked forward--on the computer, on the phone, etc. I'm wondering if that position puts pressure on my thyroid gland due to my neck being compressed. My other theory is that I had accidental exposure to Methimazole which is what one of my cats takes for HYPERthyroidism. I started being extra careful with that after my high TSH finding last year.
Thanks for the insight. Yes I'm already planning to go low carb (right now I'm basically a carb junkie) and focus on real food.
