If the dollar was on the gold standard then there would have been a call on all of Americas gold, leaving nothing in reserve. You can’t have a gold backed currency while also having an import based economy. The obvious result would be an outflow of all of the country’s gold.

America needs a wall and stiff tariffs to focus on building its productive capabilities again.
