Can they do a recall vote and get rid of those council members?
Yes, however there is a high bar for getting it done: In Pennsylvania, the process for recalling elected officials, including county commissioners, is governed by the Pennsylvania Constitution and the Pennsylvania Election Code. According to these laws, a recall petition must be initiated by a certain percentage of registered voters in the affected jurisdiction (in this case, Bucks County).
The petition must specify the grounds for recall and be signed by at least 10% of the total number of voters who cast ballots in the last election for the office being recalled (or 25% of registered voters in the jurisdiction, whichever is less). If the petition meets these requirements, a recall election is held, and voters decide whether to remove the commissioner from office. (AI is good for somethings, I guess...)
This is the problem. We've let things become this bloated and convoluted. Shit likes this really needs a reset.
Make tar and feathering legal again and put it on the ballot with each commissioner listed - a simple yes no vote for each and majority decides with no automatic no for those who don't vote on it.
Agreed.
How about drawn and quartered?
^^THIS 100% They’ve intentionally made it so difficult to meet the requirements to remove openly deceptive officials that even in a small county it’s impossible. The corruption has gone on so long that they have installed not just people but procedures that enable cheating! I wonder if a lawsuit against the local government is the only way to change this.
There is also a very high bar to remove voters from the voter rolls for people who no longer live at the address that they did when they registered, both active and inactive. I was doing an audit for Truth the Vote prior to the election. I found over 1,500 voters that needed to be removed. I was told that you need someone in their municipality to fill out an affidavit and that it needs to be notarized. A really ridiculous process which led me to believe they never want anyone removed from the voter rolls.
good question!
