You likely picked up their phones, did you ask if they had bluetooth turned on? Most people just leave it on all the time especially if they use their phones in their cars. If they did and you had seen four networks then you'd be on to something.

Also BTW RFID and Bluetooth do not use the same frequencies and protocols.
