Unfortunately, with the job market as sucky as it has been during the Biden years, the last thing people need is a flood of more people looking for work. Probably going to get worse before it gets better.
At least the Trump team has hit the ground running and the economy will turn around probably faster than it ever has in history. But there are still a lot of people who have been looking for work for months or years who are genuinely hurting.
I've been looking for a new position (although still employed) and can confirm the suckiness that those out of work have been lamenting for years. Jobs are getting hundreds of applications and the employer requirements are getting more and more ridiculous. A lot of companies are building some serious ill-will via their HR departments that's going to bite them in the ass when the employment market rebounds. I've definitely built an ongoing list of companies that won't be able to pay me enough to get me to work for them.
My experience is the best you can expect is that they don't screw things up too badly.
Theoretically, they could make the company better, but I've never seen it actually happen. Definitely seen them run companies into the ground in multiple ways.
I would be very interested to see a summary of age and other demographics, as well as credentials, voting and donation history, etc. I want to know if these are rats abandoning ship, or truly talented and commited people who don't want to have to work/livethrough the chaos, or acombination. I hope an exit survey is conducted (although people could be lying). I am guessing 75 percent hate Trump.
Exactly this. I don’t know many government employees personally, only though a family member. But the few that I know that are taking the deal, have another job. Doesn’t pay as good, but they actually enjoy that job. Bartender is one for sure. For year and years they would show up late, everyday, because of their other job. Wasn’t worried about being fired, couldn’t be. And as of last week they have to choose. QoL is better than a payday for a job imo.
If you were in the EPA, TSA, Dept. of Education or other targeted departments; taking the guaranteed paycheck until Sept 30th, with cash out of accrued vacation time - is a damn good idea.
It also gives you 8 months to look for another job, while you get a paycheck. Perhaps you will pick up a job and start work before then. That would be two paychecks for a few months - which would be nice.
At least 10% are not real, imo. We should get actual numbers next week. “Fake people” getting auto deposit paycheck or paper check delivered to a box will be unable to take the buyout package (theoretically) or show up in person on Feb 6th. Automatic termination.
Probably cause many are going to retire. They’re waiting on the early retirement incentive. My guess is the government employee realm is top heavy with career, close to retirement, age employees. it’s an easy paycheck to just sit there even after retirement age.
Yes, especially after we went to covid remote/telework. A lot of people that were going to retire then thought it would be easy to collect more paychecks and not come into the office.
I wonder if the shitlibs over on fednews are aware of this. Will probably claim bogus numbers, or that they're traitors, whatever. But deep down you know that hearing this information will hit them hard - exactly as it should.

HR can ruin a company.
Most of them are liberal females. So it makes sense.

I am waiting for the economic collapse as a final push by the deep state. Trump is hitting these organizations strategically.
I've had similar thoughts. Probably going to be glorious on the other side, but the slog through isn't going to be fun for many.
Hopefully it will be timed for spring/summer - disruption is always more dangerous in winter.
Good news, i happen to be aware of a whole lot of jobs that just came open in the agricultural industry.. 😃
Plus AI will take more and more jobs each year. How is everyone going to make a living?
They can retrain, become truckers.Always a shortage.
Wonder what their LinkedIn profiles will show.
That would be interesting,

Maybe these are remote workers who have a second job.
True. Could be people on verge of retirement anyway. A lot of possibilitites.
When do they get to retire from government these days, 45?
Great question
If you are on the verge of retirement you don't take a resignation.
I don't think it's a resignation... I think they were offered early retirement. But I agree with you.

Yes, some have other jobs,
Maybe if you voted but not who you voted for.
Thus the ...'pull the curtain, then pull the lever'

Everyone wins.
Yes it is. I never got that kind of opportunity when I lost a job,
How many were given the offer?
According to npr.org, 2.3 million.
So about.9 percent
I read, although can’t remember where, that 5% are estimated to accept resignation or early retirement packages.
I don't know.
Are these real people or just names in paper?

Look at the explosion of fed gov since Newt left Congress.

Panic in DC
Not enough. Isn't that like 1%
they also mentioned you can resign, then retire before the resignation date for free vacation. I wouldnt trust them on that happening> ?
MOAR! I WANT MOAR!
