Texas drivers licenses are 100% complaint with the "REAL ID" specs. There is a gold star on my drivers license denoting that fact. Many other states do the same thing, We have been betrayed.

Federal ID w/proof of citizenship is the only way. (well, there's DNA-based ID, but we're not at that point yet). Real ID is the first step. Next we'll see a consolidated database of birth certificates used for ID. When duplicates pop, they'll know exactly who to look for, because they'll have a current photo.
At a certain point, nefarious characters will get their hands on the levers of power again. Hopefully we'll have purged the illegals, and corrupt state apparatuses before then.
There is only one class "A" form of ID in the US. The Passport. All others are class B.
Decades ago Congress addressed protecting birth certificates and determined it was impossible due to the plethora of formats. Birth certificates are not Federally protected documents, and herein lies the conundrum.
Only a proper screening and verification of personal documents , sanctioned and authorized determines who's who in America. Whether printed or copied, sealed and dated. The digital will secure the ID for a time, depending on levels. Originally conceived to eliminate fraud, but a daunting task to undertake. Meaning...the US is far and away obsolete in the protection of documents, and we wonder why there is so much stolen Identity.
I have had the blessing of having two driver's licenses from two different states for almost 50 years. One of them is Real ID, and the other is not.
The way this was able to be done was I moved from the state that issued my very first driver's license, and when I went to the DMV in my new state of residence to get a driver's license, they only asked at the time if I had a valid driver's license in another state. Naturally, I said yes, but the DMV guy did not require me to surrender the other state's license in order to obtain the new one.
I have continued to renew the 2nd license every 5 years. Used to do it person, but since everything went on-line, I renewed it last year with the same picture they already had on file. I am good for another 5 years with two valid driver's licenses!
That said, it is also the same license that is not Real ID. I am covered either way.

Ugh - I just updated my license and bypassed the realID. The game shifts back & forth—so it’s quite possible I’ll need one.
