🇩🇪 In a historic policy shift, Germany’s new Merz-led government has effectively abolished open-border asylum entry by ordering immediate pushbacks of all illegal migrants at its national borders, ending nearly a decade of de facto mass migration policies that critics say have destabilized Europe.

Sounds like what happened 10+ years ago in my country, where the established parties finally realized that they needed to annex those political programs of the rising right-wing party, or suffer defeat. This was of course after our PM once stated, that that party would never become housebroken. Similar stuff happened a year or so ago in Sweden. Guess it is now Germany's time?
Interesting.
The AfD wanted mass deportations, so this 'shutting the borders' is sort of a straddling towards AfD, without AKshully tackling the streets.
That was my immediate reaction, too. Sure, it's great that they're finally shutting the doors, but what about the hordes that are already inside?
I bet Trump made this a requirement to proceed with trade negotiations. Why else would they suddenly change course?
Because he literally just lost the vote for Chancellor. His way of quieting the masses and getting the votes.
Old white German here.
I'm not buying that yet. Merz has broken all his pre-election promises within days. If this isn't just a smear theater play, his coalition partner, the socialists, will have to get off his back because the SPD base and a large part of the functionaries are against ANY restriction on the invasion of illegal aliens. It would blow them up.
In order for the second round of voting to take place at all, he had to court Die Linke so that the required two-thirds majority was possible without the AfD. The political price for this...?
I see the whole drama as a political precipice for Germans who are still asleep. The democracy simulation must discredit itself. An alternative must not even be allowed to participate in the executive. It must not be put in charge BEFORE the inevitable collapse of the old order, because then the people would blame it. I think that is also the reason for “election results” in Canada and Australia.
Thank you fren!
"Anyone seeking asylum must now apply in the first E.U. country they enter, in many cases, Greece. If they do not, they are to be turned back or deported."
hahaha. The lefties goto argument.
I guess, when one would drink tea, water, eat, sleep, breath, speak, say hello, pet a dog, take a picture, make a painting, hold a rally, yes, this is all acting like Hitler.
It does take away the attention to their own tyrannical ways, by suppressing free speech, destroying self-rule, etc. No, lockstep ( prisoner or military march) is important to Merz and his leftie friends ...
Losers. All of them.
It might be too late for Germany and the rest of the EU.
Metz is owned by somebody. With a carrot or a stick
Did the article mention that Merz is essentially a Rino, or worse and just lost the bid for Chancellor by a few votes? That literally just happened a couple of days ago. So now, they take their cue from what the people want (the AfD) and try to get the votes. But when it comes time to actually do anything, they'll be as bad as our dems.
It's about damn time, what was their problem?
Thanks a bunch, but you have already killed the EU.
Wahoo!
I'll wait until they start deporting the foreigners already in the country before I applaud.
