Best TexMex? Not gonna lie i did work for the Pappas family when i was in college. Over 30 years ago, i worked at Pappas Seafood off the beltway in Houston.
Pappasitos is the best TexMex. Many reasons why. I worked at one of their restaurants and can verify, the food is fresh and kitchen is clean.
Get the beef fajitas and ask for drawn butter.
Meh. Steak is steak. Go down to your local grocery store and get one that you prefer. I like ribeye with a lot of fat. Toss it on the grill for a couple of minutes, each side, pull it off and add a dab of ketchup and its a wonderful meal. The only downside right now is the cost of a grocery store steak. Forty bucks for two. Ugh.
BBQ...Same thing. Shred up some leftover steak and pour some BBQ sauce on it, toss it in the microwave for a minute and VOILA, BBQ fit for a king.
Specialty restaurants have way too much overhead for the taste enjoyment factor. Whenever the wife and I go out it's over fifty bucks, without the tip, for a meal. And that's just at the mom and pop restaurants. I find that a little pricey.
TexMex??? Taco Bell is good or make your own with Old El Paso mixes from the store.
Not knocking you or your desires, OP, just tossing out other ideas. I wouldn't mind trying Texas restaurants, but that would be a one off since I live so far away from original Texas cuisine. Cheers.
I disagree with some of your picks, but they're all damn good places. As for Joe, Joe can kick like a mule. He's heavy into martial arts. I'm sure he's not even slightly worried.
