Idk what I'm allowed to say (I don't have any clearance, just know people) but we have been preparing for this on our soil for a while now, just in case. We have very smart people on our side.
That is what I was thinking watching this video. Why cower behind a barrel when you KNOW a drone is near and hunting for folks. Stand up like a man and begin pumping buckshot at the drone. You might get lucky and hit it far enough away so you can survive the blast. But go out fighting, at least.
On yesterday's episode of the Shawn Ryan Show, he had on a former Devgru guy and they talked about this. Shawn said his team had some guys over from..a.drone unit in Ukraine. They did some training exercises with Shawn and his team where the guys had Shawn and team run off I to the woods and hide. Then they got the drones out and went hunting. Shawn said it was creepy and scary how fast they were found. He even used some weapons with sim-munition rounds against them and had little effect on the drones. They were also showed battlefield footage and were shown some new versions currently being tested. Drones that are actually drone carriers that can expel a bunch of smaller drones, whole drone networks where one pilot can be network linked to dozens of drones at one time and can just go down the line of drones in his network, drones that can see thru bldgs, etc. Shawn also said that they're hard to locate because they sound like they could be above you but could be right next to you, and that a lot of times by the time you located one it was too late. He said they have some drone models that fly at over 300 km/hr, however, I think that might be an exaggerated claim. But who knows? Even if they can only fly at half that speed, that's fast enough. And some.carry explosives with shrapnel, or fuel bombs, etc so they don't need direct hits to damage or kill you.
Think of something about the size of a buzzard, or smaller, coming at you at 100 km/hr filled with explosives of some sort. You can hear it getting closer, but you can't see it thru the trees. You decide to move to get a better look. You hear the buzzing getting louder, look up, but nothing's there. Then, all of a sudden you hear it behind you coming in fast. You turn your head around to the right to get a good look, but the area around you to the left just gets super hot. Black out. You wake up a few moments later, start checking yourself for wounds, but can't move because your left arm is dangling by a thread. You look down to see your left leg is gone half way down your femur. You suddenly feel the intense burning on the left side of your body as you feel the white phosphorus and magnesium blend burning it's way thru your equipment and clothes. The last thing you see is another quad-copter coming straight at your face...
I never had to go up against drones, as the only drones we had back in '04 when I got out were the Predator and Reaper drones. The smaller man-pad style surveillance drones were still being tested by Delta, Devgru, and some Green Beret units. But I have had assahole teens fly quad-copter drones over my house, and I have taken shots at them. And that was difficult enough to bring one down. If someone even has a small amount of skill with a drone, they have a much greater advantage over ground based shooters.
I'm a fairly decent shot, better than average with accuracy, speed, etc and couldn't hit one with normal rounds. I had to use spread rounds, like buck shot, deer shot, etc. And even then, if you don't get a direct hit while they're low enough, a normal quad copter can still fly with a rotor down. And the camera is small enough that you have to be real familiar with that particular drone model to know where it's located so you can disable it.
Like a human sprinter drones that reach such speeds cannot hold it for long, and overheat. So I think the military would likely deploy them from airborne drone carriers that move at modest speeds but have long range.
P.S. To disable you'd really need a portable electronics warfare system that has the ability to auto-track and auto-fire. I have no idea what the state of the art is in drone defensive weaponry. u/BoiledRhombus seems to know.
Surely there will be some way invented for citizens to disable these things. It’s the American way. New problem? Inventors come up with a solution and market it.
If bank on tech that allows us to find the drone operators and blow them and their drones sky high from the launch point. Russia isnt figuring that out.
I hope and pray "the golden dome" is not just for missiles.
If there are stockpiles of these things with explosives around the country, we are right fucked. We'd have to EMP ourselves to stop them all.
I'm thinking there is a EMP field generator technology available. I wish I could cite where I read it. Either a trade magazine or open secrets.
We used emp technology in iraq to fru thebphones that could detonate roadside bombs. JiEDA program. They were portable and lead many convoys.

I've been through one class. It did not teach me anything about what to buy (as an agency)
Birdshot?

Drones scare the hell out of me.
I believe it. This Redbull promotion was from two years ago. World's Fastest Camera Drone Vs F1 Car (ft. Max Verstappen)
