He belongs to a generation that is not permitted to earn enough to ever have what used to be considered a normal if humble lifestyle. Blue collar workers used to be able to buy houses while in their twenties.
Plus, he lives in Commi California which make it impossible to own a home.
Definitely should have had financial means to not live at home.

Even a small house in California costs a small fortune.
IMHO Most normal 31 year old people would rather rent or have roommates than live with their parents but the guy does sound like a gamer/bluesky basement dweller.
