Dr's and testing centers are required to report any positive test cases to the local Health Depts. I'm going thru this same experience right now with Volusia County. My 22 yr old college son came home for Spring Break and was infected (unknowingly), got sick at home and exposed the whole household. My 10 yr old daughter tested negative for COVID, but has ALL the same symptoms her brother has. Weird, I know, right?
Dr down here said NOT to get her tested again, because if do and she tests positive, it restarts the quarantine clock. My son tested positive last Thurs, daughter tested negative on Sun, almost 72 hrs (to the minute) after my son tested positive.
Now, all the research I've done says that "IF" someone is gonna test positive for it, it will happen within the first 24-48 hrs after exposure. My daughter tested negative 72 hrs after exposure, but the Dr said it was too early to test her. Weird, I know, right?
So, we're in quarantine until Friday of next week. Yay...not.
Also, the Dr who saw my son is the same Dr who saw my daughter. We went to Advent Health Centra Care near us. I don't believe for one second that ANY General Practice Dr, worldwide, knows what the deal is when it comes to COVID. The info is conflicting everywhere you look.
How can one person test positive, yet another person, from the same household, test negative but have the SAME EXACT SYMPTOMS 3 days later, when the research says you'll most likely contract COVID within 24-48 hrs of exposure?
One other thing here, as well: that Dr DID NOT prescribe any meds for either child. He said "clear liquids, vitamins, and rest should be all you need for them. They're fighting this just fine with their own immune systems." So we tried his suggestion...and it didn't work. They got worse UNTIL I went to:

I got my son the HCQ/Z-Pak combo, and my daughter got Ivermectin (she was born with a faulty Tricuspid Valve). She was cleared by her infant cardiologist by 3 yrs old, but still has a slight heart murmur, so I opted for Ivermectin so we wouldn't tax her heart too much. My son is doing great now, just has a nasty cough trying to clear his lungs out. The daughter just started her treatment and seems to be doing a lot better.
Yet, still we quarantine. Yay...not.
Just my little anecdotal story.
I hope you is helps anyone who is going thru this same experience.

Edit: Forgot to mention that the Volusia County Health Dept contacted us within 12 hrs of my son's positive test case. I told him to call them back (I don't answer calls from an unrecognized number). So far, he hasn't, and they keep calling, but have yet to send a rep to the house. Don't know what kind of attention that'll bring, but so far it's not been an issue. So, take that for what it's worth. Some areas might no be so lenient as ours is. But for right now, NOT talking to the Health Dept hasn't come back to bite us in the ass. Hopefully it won't, either, because I HAVE NO INTENTION of EVER talking to them about our "COVID episode," because NO ONE knows what they're doing with this mess. There's too much conflicting research for anyone to get a clear measurement of what we're ACTUALLY dealing with here. Your area's Health Dept might no be so lenient, so take this for what it's worth.
Y'all have a blessed week.
I'll be making a more in depth post on our experience for everyone here to see.
