They don't celebrate Ukraine's national pride any more than they do ours, but right now they've got a massive problem. The problem is that they've been using Ukraine for everything from human trafficking, to creating bio-weapons, to money laundering, and Russia is about to (or already has) got their hands on all of the incriminating evidence.

The sudden need for national pride is to try to get people to love Ukraine so much that it causes cognitive dissonance when they hear about all of the bad things that our powerful leaders have been doing there.

It's why you've got multiple politicians squealing like pigs for someone, ANYONE, to assassinate Putin. They need him dead and they need him dead like yesterday.
