My idea is to have the US government issued Social Security Number serve as the anonymous identity. in Blockchain terms the SSN would be the public wallet ID. At the beginning of each election every SSN would receive 1 "coin" aka VOTE. the blockchain app would allow people to select their candidate and it would be immutable and verifiable.

This would serve to maintain anonymity, and ensure only citizens get to vote. Edit: after thinking this over, i see a few issues.. employers know SSNs, and what would stop Dems from grabbing SSN's from dead people? there would need to be another layer of obfuscation added involving SSN, but the blockchain addresses couldnt be the SSN themselves. Edit2: these are minor issues that can be addressed. setup correctly anybody could go back and confirm their vote was counted for the candidate they intended, and see every other vote in anonymous form within the blockchain - which is always publicly accessible. back to the bitcoin example: every time anybody has transferred any bitcoin to another is visible today within the blockchain ledger.. made anonymous because it only shows wallet id's that consist of random letters and numbers. Only the exchanges that convert them to Dollars know who belongs to those wallet ID's. a wise bitcoin user can obfuscate beyond this but i wont detail the process here.
