Might be happy for the cameras or out of fear. Might also just be legitimately happy to be freed from UKR control, i don't know.

But i highly doubt that RU soldiers are starving out, shelling and deliberately targeting civilians, especially not those civvies out on the streets. Possibility of collateral civvie casualties of course exists cough UKR arty emplacements inside high rise courts/green yards cough

Modern RU army is just like any other: Lots of waiting, lots of boredom, lots of admin work, lots of miniscule, precise orders and lots of listening to your CO/NCO/Field leader/whatever; I'd say the chance of this modern, non-American army (Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan and so many more send their regards, US AirForce and US Artillery Dept.) just running around, "slaying out" on civvies and nilly-willy-wooptiedoo bombing UKR backwaters is...precisely 1%, because the possibility DOES exist. It's just a very small possibility.
