Mass Formation. My key takeaways from Desmit.
- 30% of a population begins to fanatically believe in a propaganda driven ideology. Typically 65% will not believe in the narrative but will not speak out but rather weakly go along with the 30% that seems to have the loudest voice. In the end taking up to 95% or more their groupthink.
- When in the grip of mass formation people seem to lose all awareness of their self interests. They will radically self sacrifice.
- People in mass formation become radically intolerant of dissonant voices and in the ultimate stage they will begin actively work to destroy those who do not go along with the narrative and they will do so as if it is their ethical duty to do so.
- Mass Formation is caused by loneliness and creates even more loneliness by sucking away all the energy towards social bonds.
- As long as we continue to believe we can reduce the mystery of life around us to a rational understanding we will continue to disconnect from our environment and continue to be vulnerable for Mass Formation. This part of reality that can be rationalized is very limited. The rest of reality we can only understand by emphatically resonating with it. (Another scientific view of the reality of God if you ask me).
