My first impression of DDWRT is that it is stronger security than a built-in firmware. But DDWRT has weaker security than OpenWrt

Why? Because the source code of DDWRT is mostly a Jail Software (Proprietary) and partly Libre Software (Open Source). In comparison, OpenWrt is mostly Libre Software. This means OpenWrt has much stronger security and stronger privacy. Source:
