Amazingly, after 33 years, the artwork has never been found.

The local theory is Whitey Bulger's crew did the heist and the discrete cabal were the benefactors.

Fun fact; Whitey "coincidentally" won the Mass State lottery a year after the heist to the tune of $14 million. It was probably his payoff for doing the job.
