At first, I didn't understand the entire scope of this contrived sting operation on Trump. There were pieces of this story not yet available, but now more of it has painted a good picture for better understanding it.

How clear is it that a President is the final authority of what is classified? The president is the ultimate authority of declassifying documents. Having documents in the possession of an outgoing president is a long held precedent. The courts have ruled on this as being automatic. So, what is the issue with Trump having these documents?

Apparently, every ex-president has kept their clearances for life. It is one of those time-honored precedents that has been practiced for every president in American history. That is, except for when it comes to President Trump. We now learn that Biden revoked Trump's security clearance. This is an unprecedented act. Furthermore, I believe it was done secretly without Trump's knowledge. I'm sure Trump, had he known, he would have made this known publicly. I believe this was suppose to have occurred by the time the FBI raided MAL. Originally it seemed the Trump defense emphasized that, through presidential authority to declassify all the documents, he had every right to possessing them. And presidential precedent and tradition permitted this. From this, anyone would think this was a simple case that ought to be ended by summary judgement and dismissal. However, it wasn't dismissed. Why?

Apparently after the MAL raid, those documents were reclassified by the Biden administration. This is the reason why this case persists. It was complete chicanery and never seen before in the history of the United States. The bottom line for Jack Smith was that Trump who didn't have a clearance was in possession of classified documents.

There's a twist to this contrived sting operation though. The security clearance that Trump had was not officially revoked until after the MAL FBI raid. The sting operation may have been fatally undermined. Trump had a full clearance for possessing all those documents.

This is my understanding of the dynamics of all of this. If anyone can add to this, please do.

In the context of Jack Smith trying to prevent Trump from having access to certain documents, may be based on Trump no longer having a security clearance to view them. IMHO, Judge Cannon ought to rule that an ex-president cannot have their security clearance revoked willy-nilly by an incoming president. This to me appears political and unconstitutional. However, the argument that Jack Smith is advancing is that they have "good cause" because Trump is being charged in a Washington DC federal court for attempting an insurrection and overthrowing the government of the United States.... and thus had good cause to revoke Mr. Trump's security clearance. See how this works? It's all a finely spun tapestry to ensnare Trump.
